We rescued Loki several years ago from a kill shelter in Bosnia and he spent 6 happy years in a home before being returned to us. Now as a senior dog, Loki is struggling in kennels and we hope to be able to find him a home again soon. Loki loves his home comforts, the love a family can provide and the time and attention he has become used to in the home environment.

The information provided below is from his previous family, please bear in mind that dogs often have to redo training when they move from one home to another and their behaviours can change with the change of environment.

'Loki sometimes needs to warm up to being around other dogs. He's much better on walks now when encountering other dogs & is often unbothered. However we've found he is more reactive in particular towards black male dogs and will bark at them. He would suit being the only dog in the home, though he has spent time living alongside a very well behaved male springer spaniel with no issues, so there is potential for him to live alongside another dog. Loki rarely seems reactive to female dogs, so this could also potentially work too.

We are sadly beginning our hopeful search for a loving new home for our rescue Loki. We adopted him back in 2020 via the charity Fetcher Dog who rescued him from a kill shelter in Bosnia.  Loki has always been wary of other dogs but has come on in leaps and bounds over the last 6 years. Well used to walking on a lead and enjoys running loose around a secure field, however please note Loki has absolutely *no* recall. It's something we've tried working on many times over the years but to no avail unfortunately.  Loki will come when called when in the house/garden - particularly when a treat is offered! However outside he seems to be intensely distracted and we've even had a dog trainer bewildered by how little he seemed interested in the treat 'reward' when we were attempting to recall train him outside, so this is definitely something to be wary of/he will need to be kept on the lead for walks.  Loki is great with adults and we have enjoyed many years together - he has joined us on holidays, days out etc and travels with no issues in the car.   Loki is in good health and has passed his health check ups at the vets.  He is very well behaved in the home and has never chewed on our furniture/furnishings etc. He does enjoy having a toy to chew though and enjoys his dog toys and treats.  Loki is brilliantly housetrained - if you ask him if he wants to "go out the back" he'll wait by the door to be let out into the garden to do his business. We've rarely had any accidents in the house as he seems to prefer to poop when out on a walk. He can be protective of the home, so will bark when someone knocks on the door (deliveries etc) but tends to relax again once any visitors have come in and are settled. Loki loves a cosy sofa to snuggle up on (though will get down if you ask him to) and will 'sit' , 'lay down' and occasionally 'stay' on command with the promise of a sausage treat! He loves going out on walks and chasing after a ball. We often get strangers coming up to us on walks to compliment his features. He has beautiful ears which have a unique 'crimped' effect when they're damp, short little legs and a big fluffy tail. Loki has been to the groomers before and has never had any problems with getting a groom.  Being fully transparent, the reason we are sadly having to find Loki a new home is due to him snapping at our toddler, unprovoked, resulting in a bite (fortunately not a serious injury). We were very careful to introduce Loki gently to our baby, and he has been great until more recently now our son has begun to walk, as it seems to put Loki on edge. We have tried working through this, however our son happened to walk past Loki the other day and this is when the incident happened, very sudden and unpredictably.  This is devastating for us - Loki is a much loved pet, however our child's safety is our main priority and due to the unprovoked and unexpected nature of the bite, we just cannot risk this happening again.  Overall he is a lovely dog to have around and deserves a loving home without any little people around so he can relax. '

Loki would suit a home with no young children but has been good with older children he has met since coming back into our care. Loki is the sweetest boy and we hope we can find him a home soon as he is finding his change in circumstance very distressing.
