Diary of a Fetcher Dog Volunteer - And time with Tommy!
Hi, my name’s Paul and I’m a volunteer with Fetcher Dog.
My days are packed with these tasks and, by the time my shift ends, I may be tired and a little smelly, but I’m also deeply rewarded by a real sense of accomplishment.
- Kennel cleaning - Poo Picking, scrubbing floors, changing blankets
- General centre cleaning - Rubbish Clearing, washing dog bowls, floor cleaning, loading blankets in and out of washing machines and dryers and ensuring they are close to kennels.

It has been hectic at the two centres, one outgoing and one incoming, there has been many trips between the two with full to the brim hired vans, a lot of heavy lifting and a lot of pondering as to how the new centre will look and run operationally, I will cover this in another blog.
Oh and I helped with 3 x fun challenges to raise funds for some of the dogs needing vet treatments.

There has also been volunteers on both sites, the completed jobs have included:
- Painting
- Kennel Cleaning
- Checking the electrics - Electrician
- Breaking up and moving old, unwanted, equipment

Today I got to spend time with one of my favourites - Tommy, who is so much fun to be around and does not let the fact he has only three legs affect him practically even though it is probably tiring running around.
Tommy loves attention and is a joy to be with and from me just seems to want cuddles but it did take a while for him to be comfortable with me but it was worth the wait!

Tommy's Story:
Tommy was found after he had been hit by a car on the streets of Bosnia. He unfortunately had to have his leg amputated but he healed well and is now waiting for a home of his own.
Tommy does not let his injury hold him back and he is the most loving, sweet and goofy boy. He is very friendly and loves meeting new people. He enjoys walking with the volunteers every weekend and interacting with all the other dogs. Tommy also did very well on his cat test.
We don't know if Tommy has ever lived in a home before so he will need full training upon adoption.
