Diary of a volunteer - Some Fetcher Dog Fun Facts and focus on long term resident Sebastian.

Hi, my name’s Paul and I’m a volunteer with Fetcher Dog.

My days are packed with these tasks and, by the time my shift ends, I may be tired and a little smelly, but I’m also deeply rewarded by a real sense of accomplishment.

  • Kennel cleaning - Poo Picking, scrubbing floors, changing blankets
  • General centre cleaning - Rubbish Clearing, washing dog bowls, floor cleaning, loading blankets in and out of washing machines and dryers and ensuring they are close to kennels.
  • Website posts and Monthly Newsletter production, you can subscribe for the newsletter on the homepage - www.fetcherdog.com

This week at the kennels - Fun (and grim) Fetcher Facts:

  • Were you aware that the dedicated team at Fetcher Dog whips up approximately 2700 delicious meals every month? That's an extraordinary amount of food, a considerable amount of tidying up, and an immense quantity of dog waste. 🐶🐩💩 This is equivalent to a small catering establishment as there are some dogs that have culinary needs, sensitive food, grain free food, food with supplements, food with treats, food without treats, additional salmon oil, no fish at all....
  • On an average day, our furry friends bark a total of forty times, and with forty dogs on our premises at any given time, that adds up to a whopping fifty thousand barks! Thankfully, our neighbours remain blissfully unaware of this lively chorus. The staff handle the noise with headphones.....
  • With a bustling centre full of 40 adorable dogs, keeping the blankets and sheets clean becomes a delightful challenge. This means we run a staggering 500 washing machine cycles, hang and dry over a thousand items every month. All the dogs have fresh linen (almost) every day..... Every kennel is cleared/cleaned daily which is over 1000 kennel cleans a month, I convince myself that the dogs, on some level, would prefer to sleep in a clean kennel but I am not sure at all.
  • Social Media is a massive part of engaging with the general public, Fetcher Dog has 156k followers on Instagram alone and our Social Media content creator posts every single day and this amounts to many hours of top quality content featuring big dogs, little dogs, grumpy and happy dogs, injured and healthy dogs, puppies and seniors, scared and boisterous dogs, dogs choosing toys, dogs kissing humans and just so you know for every one hour of content there are at least three hours of trying to get top quality content - Just for clarity, dogs are not interested in social media... Go figure!

Sebastian was rescued from a high kill shelter in Bosnia and is now safe and waiting for a forever home of his own.

Sebastian is a very friendly boy. He has been great with all of the others dog in the kennels. He is very boisterous and doesn't quite understand how big he is.

He has never lived in a home before, so will require full training upon adoption.

Paul writes:

Sebastian is a handsome boy and is always very sweet to me and gentle but he is a big boy and when he runs at you and jumps you have to brace yourself, he does not want to hurt you but has no concept of his own size, He adores attention and he is placid and confident with humans and other dogs. He has been at the centre a long time, probably due to his size, anyone adopting this gentle giant will be rewarded as he is a sweety but will need full training and a lot of patience as he has only experienced kennel life..

If you would like to adopt Sebastian or sponsor him, please contact Jordan at jordan.connor@fetcherdog.com
