Our latest Fetcher Dog Diary!

Hello everyone! I hope you are all doing well and the slightly cooler weather is making you as happy as it’s making us here at the centre. I’m sorry I missed last week’s diary but I’ll try and do a big catch up for you now.
The rescue world is still very hectic and with summer looming, more and more people are asking for us to take on their dogs or dumping them so they don’t disrupt their summer plans. The pounds are seriously bursting and we are asked to take in multiple dogs every single day. As we’ve said before, adoption numbers also decrease in the summer and we can only take in new dogs if we make spaces by having existing dogs in our care adopted. Luckily, we have been able to home a few of our lovely doggies over the last few weeks and they are doing very well in their new homes. Updates like this make it all worthwhile and even though we are sad to see them go, we are so happy when we see them thriving! Because of the couple of adoptions we’ve had, we welcomed a few new dogs over the couple of weeks and have more coming in soon. Scampi, Pamela and Barnabus all came to us from the pound when they had nowhere else to turn. Scampi ended up in the pound as his previous owner passed away, Pamela was a welfare case and Barnabus was just found as a stray. With some major luck, all three of these Angels have now been reserved for adoption and will soon make spaces for the other dogs heading this way. This isn’t the norm for us but we are so thankful that these doggies won’t be waiting for homes for too long. Jimmy and Susie who have both been here a little while longer have also been reserved for adoption! Y
ay for the little dogs!
Based on those reservations, we already have other dogs lined up who desperately needed rescue spaces. They’ve come from a few different pounds but we are so excited to welcome them to the Fetcher Dog Rescue Centre. Fingers crossed people will be willing to open up their homes to them asap so that we can keep on taking in dogs in need.
As always, we are regulars at our local vets! Luckily, we mostly have to take dogs in for standard health checks, vaccinations, spays/neuters but every so often something more urgent needs treating and unfortunately George needed veterinary help last week. George’s ear had filled with fluid and she needed drains put into it to prevent any further damage. She was an Angel at the vets and we had a proud parent moment when they told us that she was the most well behaved Mali they’d ever seen! This would not of been fathomable when she first arrived to the centre with us. She was so reactive to everything and every one that the thought of even stepping near the vets with her would have caused nightmares but she has come such a long way. But now she is just a love bug and happily let the vets and vet nurses examine her without issue, stick her with needles with no fuss and give her lots of cuddles with loads of other dogs and animals around!
Well done Georgie girl!
Our main focus this week has been sanctuary dog Stella. Stella was diagnosed with Malignant melanoma a few weeks ago and our focus has been doing everything we can for her. She went to the specialist vets on Tuesday to have her lymph nodes tested which thankfully came back negative for cancer and her eye and tumour were removed on Wednesday. Stella has always been amazing at the vets and this week was no different. All of the vets raved about her and said she did everything with a wagging tail. We went to collect her from the vets on Thursday and even though her new appearance made us upset, she took it all in her stride and just wanted cuddles from everyone as always. We are still waiting to hear back about biopsy results on what was removed to see if there is anything else we can do to help her but for now, we just have to make sure she isn’t in pain from her surgery and that she’s healing well and resting as much as possible.
Unfortunately this surgery was very expensive and we have a few fundraisers in the works to help us cover the big bills. Next week we are joining forces with Tori Ratcliffe and Stocky and Dee on a raffle to cover her surgery costs. Tori Ratcliffe is a pet portrait artist and a wonderful friend to Fetcher Dog who offered to help when she saw Stella’s story. She has offered an A4 pet portrait to the winner of our raffle and has got her friends at Stocky and Dee involved who are donating a £100 voucher to the winner as well. The raffle starts TODAY so head to the link below to get involved and help us pay off these vet bills!
As always, we are so thankful to everyone who supports us and our dogs. We couldn’t do it without you!
See you next week!
