Fetcher Dog say goodbye to Stella!
Miss Stella, has there ever been a dog so loved as you? Our sweet girl Stella died last week and she will be missed by so many people.
Her wagging tail and happy face was a staple at the rescue centre and it won’t be the same without her. We don’t know a Fetcher Dog without Stella.
Stella was rescued from a high kill shelter in Bosnia on the first trip our team ever took to Bosnia to see how shocking the conditions actually were. We fell in love instantly and when she was ready to join us in the U.K., we jumped at the chance. We soon discovered Stella had been born with a hole in her soft palette and food had been going through that, into her lungs and then rotting and making her sick for her whole life. She had to have a massive operation which had huge potential risks but she fought as hard as she could and made it through.
She was left with a constant snotty nose but she took it all in her stride and spent every day doing what she loved- sitting in the sunshine, laying in piles of leaves, snoozing in puddles, having endless cuddles and getting in the way at any chance she got, if you desperately needed to get through a gate Stella would definitely be sitting directly in front of it pawing at your leg.
Stella was diagnosed with malignant melanoma earlier this year and despite having an operation to remove the initial tumour, the cancer had spread and she went downhill quite quickly in the last few weeks.
We are so grateful to everyone that helped us pay for Stella’s operation and very care in her last few months and we are so grateful to everyone who gave our girl love when they visited the centre. She was truly a very special dog and we already miss her.
