Diary of a volunteer - Daily chores and quality time with Orla!

Hi, my name’s Paul and I’m a volunteer with Fetcher Dog.
Most days you’ll find me hard at work (or at best working) in our kennels and around the centre, keeping things clean and safe. I’ve started this series of blogs to give you a real, behind-the-scenes look at life in a busy dog rescue and to share some of the stories of our long-term residents.
Kennel cleaning might not sound glamorous—and it isn’t—but it’s absolutely vital for the health, safety, and happiness of our dogs. From poo-picking and scrubbing floors to changing every bed in each kennel or crate, it’s detailed, hands-on work that makes a world of difference to the dogs in our care.
I am also showcasing some of our long term residents, dogs that for various reasons are not getting any adoption interest.
This week I am spending time with Orla.

Because of their pasts, some of our dogs can be wary of men, but in this new series of posts I’ll be introducing some of our most overlooked stars—dogs who’ve shown themselves to be wonderfully friendly with people, great with other dogs, and perfectly comfortable even with someone like me (and I’m tall and not exactly a cover model!).
As you can see from the photos, I’ve been spending quality time with Orla out in our field—playing together, sneaking her a few extra treats, and giving her kennel a little makeover. I made sure her beloved sofa, kindly donated by one of our amazing supporters, is extra safe and snug, ready for the long, cosy naps she loves so much.
Orla's Details:

Orla was rescued from a high kill shelter in Bosnia after she was placed on the kill list. She is now safe in kennels in Bosnia and is waiting for a forever home of her own.
Orla is a very sweet girlie. She has a very good nature and has been lovely to have in the kennels. She is the most cuddly girl and will happily sits on our laps for snuggles for as long as we will let her. She can be nervous of new people so introductions should be done slowly.
Orla loves going out for walks but can be reactive with certain people. She is getting more and more confident out and about.
Orla is a very clever girl and learns new things quickly.
She has been good with the other dogs in the kennels.
Orla was returned to us after six months in a home so will require full training, patience and support.

Thank You and see you next time
