The Diary of a Fetcher Dog volunteer - Sunsets over the new centre and dogs with hats!

Hi, my name’s Paul and I’m a volunteer with Fetcher Dog.

My days are packed with these tasks and, by the time my shift ends, I may be tired and a little smelly, but I’m also deeply rewarded by a real sense of accomplishment.

  • Kennel cleaning - Poo Picking, scrubbing floors, changing blankets
  • General centre cleaning - Rubbish Clearing, washing dog bowls, floor cleaning, loading blankets in and out of washing machines and dryers and ensuring they are close to kennels.
  • Website posts and Monthly Newsletter production, you can subscribe for the newsletter on the homepage - www.fetcherdog.com

As you maybe aware Fetcher Dog have moved to their very own, owned, centre in Yelsted, Sittingbourne, Kent.
Over the past few weeks there has been many volunteers on centre performing a number of tasks, all of which are very important to the well being of the dogs and the evolution of the charity. These include painting, garden maintenance, stud work, rubbish removal, clearing of areas for events and trades people literally building rooms for dogs, staff and guests alike.

I, personally, have updated the website with news items, collated and sent the Fetcher Dog newsletter to over four hundred subscribers and helped clearing one of the large rooms and acted as a runner for the visit of Awon Golding and Lucy Reeve from Haute Dogs Calendar who were on site to photograph 12 x dogs for their 2027 calendar, this was an incredible honour for Fetcher Dog to be chosen and most of the dogs were well behaved, patient and full of character and produced some stunning images.
The calendar will be ready this September!
These days are rewarding as a volunteer as they are different from the usual, interesting and you get to meet some charming and highly talented individuals.

We thank Awon and Lucy for their professionalism and their love for dogs all the adopters and their dogs for travelling to the centre and making this a memorable day.

After the move from the previous property the charity is back to normal operational practices with adoptions starting again, dogs being given up from impatient dog owners and catering for the needs of our rescues.

There is is still a long way to go and Fetcher Dog are looking for trades people to complete the centre's building works and then painters to make the buildings aesthetically pleasing with the aim of making the centre a safe and secure sanctuary for the dogs.

Thank You
